Overview

This self-driven data analysis project investigates investment trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Artificial Intelligence as a Service (AIaaS), leveraging economic, investment, and patent filing data to assess the market’s trajectory toward a projected $96 billion valuation by 2030. The research was inspired by Stanford’s AI Index Report, which tracks AI’s economic and technological impact.

To examine global AI investment patterns, I built a structured analysis using Python (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn), SQL (SQLite), and data visualization tools. My analysis focused on:

  • Corporate AI investments by type (M&A, minority stakes, private investment, public offerings).

  • Private AI investments by focus area (healthcare, cloud, fintech, retail, automation, etc.).

  • The number of newly funded AI startups per year and region.

  • The number of AI-related patent filings globally, highlighting innovation trends.

Key technical components of the project included:

  • Data extraction and cleaning using Pandas and NumPy to ensure dataset consistency.

  • SQL queries in SQLite to analyze investment distribution across different industries and timeframes.

  • Time-series analysis to evaluate how investments evolved from 2013 to 2021, adjusting values for inflation.

  • Data visualization using Matplotlib and Seaborn to represent trends in funding, patents, and market growth.

This project combined economic analysis, AI industry research, and data science methodologies, providing a data-backed perspective on AI investment dynamics and the growing AIaaS sector.

Motivation Statement

This project was driven by my interest in AI’s economic impact and the intersection of technology, business, and investment trends. As AI continues to revolutionize industries, understanding where capital is flowing provides key insights into market opportunities, innovation hubs, and the global AI ecosystem’s expansion.

Analyzing corporate and private AI investments allowed me to explore how different sectors prioritize AI adoption—whether through strategic M&A activity, private capital injections, or funding for emerging startups. Additionally, examining AI-related patent filings helped me assess the pace of AI innovation and its geographical distribution.

From a technical standpoint, this project reinforced my passion for data-driven decision-making, financial analytics, and AI industry forecasting. It aligned with my broader interest in AI governance, technological strategy, and responsible investment in AI-driven solutions.

  4. The Role of AIaaS in Future Market Growth – The increasing adoption of AIaaS models suggests that AI is shifting from an exclusive, research-driven field to a scalable, on-demand enterprise solution—a trend worth monitoring for business applications and economic forecasting.

This project reinforced my passion for leveraging AI and data science for strategic decision-making, and I plan to continue exploring AI investment dynamics, market trends, and the role of AI in shaping future industries.
